For his actions at Gela, Patton awarded Darby his 2d DSC and promoted him to Colonel. Darby accepted the Oak Leaf Cluster (2d DSC award) but turned down the promotion to remain with his Rangers. Patton is reported to have said “Darby is a real fine Soldier.”
