Tom had said “I have the goal of becoming a hard-nosed football player” He certainly was. When Glen Blumhardt went out spitting teeth, Coach Dale Hall asked Tom if he could block Mike Ditka – Tom said “Yes”? On the first play Tom was responsible for blocking Mike. When Tom returned to the huddle, he said “Well I blocked him but I can’t see”. Tom’s nose was sticking out the ear hole of the helmet.
